Siemens Digital Industries Software has opened Realize LIVE, its flagship event that brings together over 2,000 attendees from our user, partner and expert community to share their collective knowledge, know-how and insight. Realize LIVE also provides a platform for us to share our vision, discuss the vectors and driving forces for the future and celebrate the incredible work our customers do with the world’s most comprehensive Digital Twin technology and the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software.
President and CEO, Tony Hemmelgarn, opened the proceedings with a keynote that not only looked back at how radically the landscape for industrial software has changed, but more importantly where the company he leads is heading next – and as with all things technology today, that means Artificial Intelligence (AI) going to fundamentally change how products are conceived, designed, manufactured and serviced in the future.
“You may think that many things have been overhyped, but when it comes to AI, this feels different. It feels different because we’re seeing immediate business value for our customers and frankly, the possibilities are endless when you think about what can happen. When a customer sees the true benefits then they understand how this will make a difference to their business – and it requires us to think a little bit differently.”
Hemmelgarn went onto to explain how Siemens thinks about AI in three areas: Analyse, Optimize and Generate. Analyse brings together natural language processing to AI co-pilots built to our software that allows us to interrogate complex design, engineering, manufacturing and live production data to create the data we need with a simple prompt. With the power of AI we can Optimize everything from a production schedule, reconfigure a manufacturing plant. Generate allows us to use AI to automatically create a design specification, manuals or even geometry.
Hemmelgarn showed work Siemens is doing to democratize access to simulation using generative AI to design parts using just the performance requirements of the part or using AI to make the benefits of systems-based modelling with automated tools that create the SysML models from simple natural language inputs. He also showed how HARTING Technology Group has built a system to take simple voice inputs to not only a customers’ capture requirements for electrical connectors but leverage AI to drive how those parts are built using our NX 3D CAD software.
The ecosystem is key

The Harting project is a perfect example of how Siemens’ commitment to openness in Siemens Xcelerator and building an ecosystem that can enhance, remix and reimagine how our technologies can be implemented and used. Hemmelgarn highlighted recent work with NVIDIA to connect its Omniverse cloud-based visualisation technology to Siemens Xcelerator, enabling the photorealistic, high fidelity of massive scale engineering data.
Hemmelgarn also announced the expansion of our partnership with Microsoft. “Together, we’re going to make sure that our AI capabilities are coupled together with PLM on Microsoft Azure, as a start, we’re going to have Siemens Xcelerator as a Service run on Azure to give our customers a choice. It’s so important because now we can integrate what we do with the data we have in Teamcenter with Microsoft’s AI. The reason we’re excited about this partnership is because this isn’t just Siemens running on Azure, this is how we’re working together to develop applications that we’ll bring forward. It’s very important for us and we think it can go a long way – we’re responding to something that our customers have been asking us for.”
Delivering Siemens Xcelerator as Service
Joe Bohman, executive vice president, PLM Products at Siemens Digital Industries Software, then took the stage to bring the assembled group up to speed on the latest developments across its products – with a focus on showcasing innovation around our Siemens Xcelerator as a Service portfolio of cloud-based industry software.
“The cloud market will surpass $1 trillion in 2026 and every CIO (Chief Information Officer) I talk to is intensely interested in what we’re doing with the cloud. What we’re doing is Siemens Xcelerator as a Service. We’re offering our full set of solution as SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions designed using our digital thread methodology so it all connects together. We’re building out of the box SaaS solutions that are secure, personalized and customizable with Mendix, and it brings together expert communities, giving people the ability to talk and work together,” said Bohman
“Customers are telling us they are 33% faster to market using this approach with 60% lower IT costs measured with a number of customers and 100% up to date. A special guest and partner
Joe Bohman, executive vice president, PLM Products, Siemens Digital Industries Software, welcomes Seiya Amatatsu, Head of Sony’s XR Technology Development Division on stage at Realize LIVE Americas.
Bohman then introduced a special guest of stage – a long-standing Siemens customer, Sony Corporation. Seiya Amatatsu, Head of Sony’s XR Technology Development Division, detailed how his team relies on Siemens’ NX software from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to help develop its new SRH-S1, featuring an XR head-mounted display and controllers for intuitive interaction with 3D objects. Sony has been using the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio as its primary product engineering software since 2015, at an accelerated pace.
“Sony succeeded in implementing NX in the fastest schedule in the world and we were able to improve our design process productivity by 25%. Although significant advancements have been made with NX, I wanted to achieve further evolution with a product that brings innovations allowing direct editing in an immersive environment. I believed that could be realized with Siemens and as a result, the XR head-mounted display was developed that could bring innovative products to market more rapidly,” said Sony’s Amatatsu.
Hirohito Kondo, Deputy General Manager, XR Business Development Division, Product Management Department of Sony, joined Siemens’ Danny Sicking on stage to provide details on our forthcoming collaboration to bring immersive engineering to Siemens Xcelerator.
